About

My name is Sarah. I am an acrylic and oil painter from Saskatchewan. I moved to the West Coast of British Columbia in January of 2018! I currently live and work out of my bedroom studio in Victoria, BC.

My purpose as an artist is twofold:

1) I wish to spread warmth and love in the world, using paint as my vessel, and

2) I wish to bring a powerful awareness and admiration to Earth’s fantastic creatures and landscapes

They say that most people are left-brain or right-brain thinkers. I consider myself both. I am fascinated and driven by scientific thought yet inspired and totally exhilarated by creativity and art. I call upon both thought patterns when approaching a painting.

My left-brained-ness leads me to my subjects: I am captivated by evolutionary biology (specifically, how evolution has led to the incomprehensible diversity that we see on planet Earth). It’s the endless variety of our world that inspires me.

My right-brained-ness helps me bring my subjects to life: I like to think that my artistic style favours a lack of precision and accuracy. I describe it as ‘an exaggerated and imperfect portrayal of the beauty that I see’. My right-brain allows me to depict my subjects in a way that is free-flowing and unique to my own interpretation. It grants me the opportunity to create without getting caught up on precise details.

In my free time, I like to read about science, astronomy, and biological evolution. I love learning and will continue to feed my left-brain with facts, figures, systems and processes. My right-brain will continue to translate this learning into colourful and exaggerated pieces of artwork.
